Girls House

The fist house is our girls house now

Our first own house is our girls house now. Until the second house was finished, our kids from the former Kijitonyama house lived here. Our foster mother Eva, her husband Jesse and her daughter Suzy moved with us. Henceforward, Eva is taking care of the girls in her loving and cordially way.

Everyday life in Kijitonyama

The day begins early as in all of our houses.

Eva, our loving foster mother at 7 am, wakes our children up. Many of the children are already awake and look for somewhere in the garden where they can brush their teeth and wash up since our water equipment doesn’t always work in the house and we have to get the water from our tank. After a small breakfast of tea and bread or oatmeal, the children that have school in the mornings make their way by foot to the school, which is near to the house. They usually play for a while at school before class begins.
They are all home in time to eat at 1pm. Then, there is “Tuition”, a form of tutoring in small groups, or the children go back to school since the classes are divided into segments due to the large number of students (100 - 130 children per class). The teachers earn additional money due to these extra hours and the actual content of lessons is taught.

In the late afternoons, all of the children are back home and help prepare the main meal, which is dinner, play, clean their shoes, do homework or do their laundry.

After dinner, someone usually reads a story in English from the children’s bible or the children do their homework before bedtime, which is at 9pm. The children naturally chat or play a bit before they all fall asleep.
